Artistic Discipline-Specific Challenges & Progress
Each artistic discipline and field has unique barriers and challenges for people with disabilities. What are the specific challenges, as well as the solutions, opportunities, and resources found within specific artistic disciplines or fields?
Within your particular artistic discipline, please share your ideas for what resources or programs assist in addressing discipline-specific barriers or challenges, and what progress has been made in regards to artists, and/or cultural workers with disabilities. Are there resources in your specific artistic community that address the current discourse around disability? What organizations, opportunities, venues/spaces, and individuals working on disability issues within your specific artistic field should we know about? Please share resources that offer strategies for arts organizations and disability organizations to more effectively work together to improve employment outcomes for people with disabilities in the arts.
ADA requirements do not necessarily provide guidelines for creating inclusive, welcoming spaces that allow disabled people to thrive. In dance, there may be programs and venues may be accessible to audiences, but there are often serious barriers to disabled artists who are performing. As a visually impaired person, I love to dance especially Israeli folk dancing.. Need someone who knows the steps and can guide a person like me as well. Most of the people who dance, cannot describe the steps while dancing. They also use the wrong language. Rather than use the name of the step, they say one, two three.
For NADC to create an online searchable disability resources database perhaps by geographical region. For example, as part of a proposed theater project involving high school, college, and possibly home-schooled students, I’d like to know all of the schools and programs that service students with special needs and disabilities in the San Francisco Bay Area. I would find such a database very helpful.

Dialogue implies 2 way communication. I have an idea, how about getting this information out into the community? This site is too wordy and confusing too. Leaderboard points? WTF? Looks like the usual Government funding using the funds to pay for a study that does little to benefit disabled Artists.
