Students w/disabilities low participation in school Arts program

Observation, as it relates to students with disabilities and their "participation" in school arts programs. Their participation is low or non-existent because school arts programs are student selected and band/chorus/dance/theatre/etc teachers do not recruit for student participants. Many students with disabilities do not sign up to participate in school arts programs. One understandable reason is low self-esteem/confidence. ...more »

Resources and Training for HR Professionals/Recruiters

Does anyone know of resources/training specifically targeted for HR professionals and recruiters to include people with disabilities for employment in their cultural institution? This might be resources that were not intended for the cultural workforce, but could be adapted. Job-seeking tools

Starting out on a job search is a challenging undertaking for even seasoned professionals. It can seem even more daunting and overwhelming for a young person just starting out, particularly one who not only has to deal with age inexperience, but with a disability as well. While every job seeker in the arts — regardless of whether or not they have some type of disability — needs professional-quality presentation tools ...more »

What About the Colleges?

I continue to ask what is being done for dance training to be equitable for wheelchair dancers on the college or university level? I don't just mean an integrated class here and their. I am talking about the ability for wheelchair dancers to take all classes together with their non disabled peers and to receive a degree in dance. We know that it can be done because we do it at Dancing Wheels Company, but to date there ...more »

Folk Dancing on stage led by a guide

As a visually impaired person, I love to dance especially Israeli folk dancing.. Need someone who knows the steps and can guide a person like me as well. Most of the people who dance, cannot describe the steps while dancing. They also use the wrong language. Rather than use the name of the step, they say one, two three.

Centering Disability Artistry

In too many art spaces, people are unaware that artistry that uses the political, cultural, and historical dimensions of disability is a profound and growing field. Disability artistry itself is a tool for change, since the work being produced questions long-held notions of things like embodiment, temporality, and interdependence (which are in some cases the very concepts we wish we could introduce to those at the helm ...more »
